The Milo (/en/opleidingen/personal-trainer) course is a thirty-week journey. During that period you build a strong theoretical foundation and essential practical skills from the ground up. We have thought very carefully about the knowledge and skills a personal trainer needs every day to successfully guide different clients.
The course is written by experts who are themselves highly successful as trainers and entrepreneurs. With the team we work on it continuously, so the knowledge is always up to date and the way we deliver it leads to mastery. Our starting point is that we do not only share our knowledge and experience with you, but also guide you in developing skills you can apply at the right moment. Because only then does that knowledge become truly valuable. Without application there is no impact.
The course is built from five blocks: the fundamentals, coaching and teaching, maximising muscle growth, maximising strength, and the holistic approach. Each phase is designed to give you step by step more responsibility, while the complexity of the topics increases.
Every practical lesson is preceded by an online module. Here you prepare with theory, exercises and in-depth assignments. After the practical lesson you reflect and continue with the next module. That module builds on the previous one and challenges you just a little more. This rhythm is there for a reason. Science shows that this frequency and structure helps you store knowledge best and truly make it your own.
We encourage you to approach learning differently from what you are traditionally used to in the school system. This scientifically grounded approach explains why our students say this course is more than just a personal trainer course. The structure, knowledge and assignments are carefully designed to give you the right experiences, so that you can get to work with knowledge, skill and confidence. That does mean you have to step out of your comfort zone. We guide you in this with purpose and challenge you firmly. Because learning is not a passive process, but a dynamic, challenging and stimulating experience that truly changes you.
During the first lessons you learn the fundamental principles of movement. You discover how the body works, which systems it consists of, how it moves and which factors influence our movement options.
You also learn the Milo coaching method. Its starting point is thinking in movement and teaching your clients to maximise their quality of movement. For each movement pattern you learn which muscle groups are primarily used, what common energy leaks are, and we cover a variety of exercises. In the practical lessons we bring all of this to life.
Here the focus shifts from learning exercises to building complete training programmes. You learn how the body adapts through training and how we can direct that process by writing training formats and programmes. You also learn about the different energy systems and how we can make them stronger.
In the practical lessons you step into the role of the trainer for the first time. You give small group training and we coach you on communication, leadership and effectively motivating others. In practical lesson four you not only test your own programmes, but also really experience the energy systems.
Now we go deeper into programming. You learn how specific physical changes such as muscle growth and strength work and how you can maximise them with targeted programming. In practice you are responsible for designing training programmes for fellow students and yourself.
During the practical lesson you guide complete training sessions, focused on strength and muscle growth. This is where you feel how the combination of professor, trainer and motivator comes together.
Nutrition and lifestyle are crucial in personal training. In this module you learn the essential principles of biology and psychology. You learn how to programme effective nutrition and lifestyle interventions. You integrate this knowledge into your programmes for strength and muscle growth. This way you help clients to lose fat sustainably, build muscle mass and develop a healthier lifestyle.
In this phase we bring everything together. Most clients do not come with a specific goal and are not maximally resilient. It is up to you as the trainer to make this clear. For this you learn to conduct a targeted intake. You analyse movement and design a personal programme.
During the practical lesson you discuss your work with your mentor and practise everything you have learned in a simulated situation. This is the lead-up to the exam.
Then the exam. Your chance to show what you can do. It consists of two parts: an oral test about your programming and a practical test in which you show that you can coach a client with the right intention. It is the ultimate test of your role as professor, trainer and motivator. If you pass this test, you know that you can call yourself a Milo Certified Personal Trainer with full confidence.
The Milo Personal Trainer course is a structured journey that prepares you for a successful career. The level is challenging, which leads to significant personal growth. After completing it successfully you stand out in the market straight away. From the basic principles to coaching real clients, every step brings you closer to mastery.
